The only international airport within the province of Manitoba, Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport is a major transportation hub for Manitoba. A large number of airlines fly to the airport, and it is a hub for several smaller carriers. Decent spotting opportunities are available, mostly due to the nearby Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada.

Other Spotting Locations

Ness Avenue Park

Just north of the Tim Hortons on the corner of Ness and Mount Royal there is a field, over which is the approach for runway 36. Since the approach is directly over the field, you'll mostly get the underside of the airplanes but since the field is decently sized, you can move to the side of the fight path, allowing for more side shots. Lighting is good pretty much all day as you can adjust your angle to match the sun. Parking is available by the Tim Hortons, or by Silver Avenue. The Yellow Ribbon Greenway offers access by bike/foot.

Brookside Boulevard

If winds are coming from the south and runway 18 is in use for arrivals, arrivals can be seen along Brookside Boulevard. Running parallel to the runway, there are no stopping signs and not much shoulder on the road. However, there is a small bridge just north of Logan Avenue that is perfect for viewing arrivals. In addition, on the corner of Brookside and Notre Dame Avenue there is a small place to stop, however the tall fence makes ground-level imagery difficult. These locations are more morning-orientated because of the lighting.

Used to be a good location, but the Museum left the location in October 2018.
