Official Spotting Locations

Other Spotting Locations

Renton Chamber of Commerce

The Renton Chamber of Commerce parking lot is located just past the Rainer Ave North and Airport Way South intersection. The parking lot offers a good afternoon view of the airport along with a view of the Boeing Ramp where new 737's are inspected before their first flights. This area is best for runway 33 landings. If your taking pictures of aircraft, a 200mm lens or longer is recommended. Samples:

Northwest Park

There is a park at the Northwest end of Renton's Perimiter Road West. If offers a good view for planes landing on runway 15 in the afternoon light. Seaplane landings, takeoffs, and launches can been seen from here. You do not need to bring a step ladder as their is a grassy knoll you can stand on to get to fence level, however one is recommended.

Locations to Avoid

Logan Ave North & North 6th Ave

Although tempting, do not attempt to take pictures of Boeing 737's on the east side of the airport. Boeing security will swiftly respond and ask you to leave.

Regular Traffic

Sound Flight is one of the only airlines that operate out of Renton. It is common to see small general aviation airplanes, seaplanes, and small business jets at the airport. Boeing 737 first flights usually happen on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 0830 and 1500 hours, but usually around 1100 and 1400 hours. After a 737's first flight, it will almost always never return to RNT. All flight testing is done from Boeing Field.
