Haugesund Airport is a small airport on the island of Karmøy, and serves the city of Haugesund and the Rogaland area of southwest Norway. The airport serves mainly domestic flights on SAS; Ryanair also flies several times a week from Stansted. It is the 26th largest airport in Norway, with a throughput of just 531,728 passengers in 2006. It was formerly the main base for Coast Air.

In the summer it is light most of the day, only getting dark from around 1am until 2am, so even night movements can occur in daylight. The downside is that in the winter it is only light for a few hours.

Other Spotting Locations

Coast Air Hangar

There is relatively good viewing available around the terminal building. Take a right out of the building and walk towards the old Coast Air hangar. On the right hand side is a gate that offers a good view across the apron.

Inside Terminal

Inside the terminal building there are good views airside and landside. Landside, head towards arrivals and you will come across the baggage belt. There are a set of double doors behind it out onto the apron.

Airside, the departure gates offer good unrestricted views across the apron.

Regular Traffic

The airport is proportionately quiet for its size, the highlights of the day being SAS 737/F50s, Ryanair 737s and Norwegian 737s. There is also some charter activity in the summer months.

Norwegian - Oslo-Gardermoen (B737)
Ryanair - Alicante, Bremen, Edinburgh, London-Stansted (B737-800)
Scandinavian Airlines - Bergen, Oslo-Gardermoen, Durham Tees-Valley (B737, F50)
Eurocypria - Chania (B737-800)

Private jets and small props are common year-round.

Facilities and Transportation

The only transportation into Haugesund is via taxi or bus. Either way takes around 30 minutes. A taxi will cost around £25, the bus is around £7 per person. The Kystbussen meets the Ryanair flight and takes you straight into the city centre via all hotels.
