Official Spotting Locations

Overview of the airport.

Approach lights rwy 12

When approaching Östersund airport from the city, follow the signs towards "Stocketitt". Continue past "Stocketitt" towards the old military area. You will pass the airport on the left side and go through the old military area (airport tower etc.). When leaving this area through the second gate, you will see the approach lights for runway 12. Just stop on the side of the road and you will see incoming traffic. This is a fairly good spot to see landing aircrafts, but you will mostly only see the "belly" on those taking off.

Final rwy 30

Gravelpit

Follow the signs towards the airport. When passing a sign that says "stocketitt" and directs you to the left, keep going forward. On your right side right after a right turn, there will be a small road next to a gravel pit. Follow the fence near the road and climb up on the small "mountain". Here you will see arriving and departing aircrafts well.

Parking near approach lights

Follow the signs towards the airport. When passing a sign that says "stocketitt" and directs you to the left, keep going forward. You will be able to see the airport area on your left side, and there will be a small parking place on the left side just before a left turn. From this parking you can continue through the bushes to a small heightened area where you will see incoming traffic well.

Small road

Follow the signs towards the airport. When passing a sign that says "stocketitt" and directs you to the left, keep going forward. You will be able to see the airport area on your left side and just after a left turn there will be a small road on your left side, going straight towards the runway. From this location you can see incoming traffic, but you will only see the "belly" on the aircrafts.

The Meadow

When approaching Östersund airport from the city, follow the signs towards "Stocketitt". Continue to the parking lot at "Stocketitt" and walk towards the meadow just by the runway. Here you will see departing and arriving aircrafts well (both rotations and landings).

The Parkinglot (Airport terminal)

Follow the signs towards the airport terminal. Go to the long time parking area, and stand by the fence. Here you will see both landing and departing aircrafts, as well as parked business jets and taxiing aircrafts. If you take photos from here, this spot may however bring backlit during some hours of the day.

Regular Traffic

SAS (MD80, Boeing 737), Flynordic (MD80), Nordic Regional (SAAB 340)

Facilities and Transportation

The airport bus leaves Östersund city once every hour, this stops at the main terminal, and you have to make your own way to the other spotting locations.
