===Observation platforms===
Dusseldorf has two large observation platform.
'''PLEASE NOTE: In the case of inclement weather the viewing terraces will remain closed. The airport asks for your understanding'''

Dusseldorf International has 2 premium box-seats to watch the show of aircraft traffic at Dusseldorf International Airport. You can experience the airport activity live from the terminal, from the railway station or both!

From the observation deck on the roof of the new concourse B you can watch the air traffic on the apron and the aircraft dispatch procedures. You get to the observation platform from the third floor of the terminal.

The second platform can be found at the long distance train station (not to be mistaken with the local train station in the terminal!). Here you are just as close by to the planes, but there is no clutter at all. Therefore this place is preferable. When planes come in from the east they land on the far away runway, and take-off from the nearby runway. Lining up is very close by as well.

Just one ticket gives you admission to both observation decks. Because the rail station and terminal are quite far apart, the airport recommends using the Sky Train service to get from one observation terrace to the other. The ticket for the observation deck is also your ticket for the Sky Train. Be aware that the rail station deck is sometimes closed for special events. Therefore ask at the terminal deck before making a wasted trip!

===The Holes===

The approved location is called the "holes." The "holes" is aptly named for the holes cut-out in the fence. This location provides viewing for the following:

Approach end of RWY 08L, 08R and 12. Departures for RWY 26L, 26R and 30.

This spot is located on NW 25 ST. and about 64 AVE. It is just east of the US Customs building. Do not park in the Customs Employee lot, but across the street (south).

==Other Spotting Locations==

===NW 72 Ave and 14 St===

The other location is on NW 72 AVE and 13 ST. It is a dead end street in front of El Dorado Furniture. Do not park in their lot. This spot affords arrivals to RWY 09. Most of the cargo flights will arrive and depart on this runway. This location sometimes gets the authorities attention.
===View Terraces in Terminal 1 and 2===
The view terraces are in Terminal 1 and 2. They offer an outstanding view over the apron and the runways despite the fact you'll have to spot through glass. The view Terraces in Terminal 2 can be visited for free. I don't know if there is an entrance fee at Terminal 1. The accesses are signposted.
{{anetlink|1563829}} (taken from Terminal 2's terrace)

===View Terrace at the Model Exhibition===
[[File:Ham terrace.jpg|thumb|Visitor Terrace at the Model Exhibition]]
There is another view Terrace at the Model Exhibition. Go outside of the terminal and walk 5 minutes to the north. You will see the Sign for the "Modelschau". There is a restaurant with a view Terrace. The entrance is for free, but unfortunately you'll have to spot through glass.

==Other Spotting Locations==
==="The Bridge" - Flughafenstrasse===
[[File:Ham_bridge.jpg|thumb|Bridge on the Flughafenstrasse]]
The spot can be reached from the airport terminal by walking to the north along the "Flughafenstrasse" toward Fuhlsbüttel. Walking time is about 10 minutes. You are very close to runway 23 arrivals and are also able to see departures on the same runway. On fullframe cameras you will need lenses from 100-300mm focal length. ==="Cafe Himmelsschreiber" - GAT===
The spot is probably the most versatile at HAM. Walking time is about 20 minutes from the terminals via "Weg beim Jäger". It's actually a Café with a terrace. You have great light almost the whole day depending on the runways in use. There is a lot of action as it is directly located on the General Aviation Terminal. Of course there is a fence which you can avoid using a three step ladder but with a crop camera you should be able to take photographs through the fence anyway. You may need wide angle lenses down to 24mm on fullframe as the action can get very close but make sure to have longer lenses as well.
===View Terraces in Terminal 1 and 2===
The view terraces are in Terminal 1 and 2. They offer an outstanding view over the apron and the runways despite the fact you'll have to spot through glass. The view Terraces in Terminal 2 can be visited for free. I don't know if there is an entrance fee at Terminal 1. The accesses are signposted.
There is another view Terrace at the Model Exhibition. Go outside of the terminal and walk 5 minutes to the north. You will see the Sign for the "Modelschau". There is a restaurant with a view Terrace. The entrance is for free, but unfortunately you'll have to spot through glass.
Light is good from 9am to 2pm.
'''Dortmund Airport''' DTM/EDLW, known as '''Flughafen Dortmund''' in German, is the international airport of Dortmund, Germany. Its slogan is ''Startbahn Ruhrgebiet'' (''Runway Ruhr Area'').

==Early History==
The airport was first served by commercial flights in 1925 by Aero Lloyd, which operated flights to Paris. By the business year 1927/1928, service had expanded to 2,589 commercial flights annually. During World War II the airport was used a German air base, and was subsequently used by the United Kingdom|British Royal Air Force. Service to Dortmund was not recommenced when German commercial air service was restarted in 1955.Over the next decades Düsseldorf International Airport and Cologne Bonn Airport were the dominant commercial airports in the Rhine-Ruhr. Additionally Hanover/Langenhagen International Airport and Münster/Osnabrück Airport also covered some of the air travel needs of this region. Furthermore, the 257 kilometer/km (160mile) Sauerlandlinie opened in the late 1960s, connecting Dortmund with Frankfurt International Airport in under two hours by car.

Commercial service was restored in 1979 with daily flights to Munich by Reise- und Industrieflug GmbH (RFG). Nuremberg and Stuttgart followed shortly afterwards. Following German Reunification in 1990, Dresden, Leipzig, Berlin, and London were added to the flight schedule.

RFG and NFD (Nürnberger Flugdienst) merge in 1990 and Eurowings was formed, which is still based in Dortmund. Construction was started in 1998, and completed in 2000 on a new replacement terminal. This multi-level terminal prepared the airport for its resurgence.

From late 2000 onwards, Dortmund Airport has experienced a drastic increase in air traffic. In the 1990s weekly service had been generally restricted to a few turboprop flights to destinations within Germany, as well as occasional charter flights to warm-weather destinations. Since 2000, several new airlines have commenced service to Dortmund, many with mainline jets. Most of the air traffic today is by low cost airlines operating Boeing 737 or Airbus Airbus A318/Airbus A319/Airbus A320/Airbus A321 series aircraft to warm-weather destinations and business centers.
===Public gallery===

The public gallery is in the new terminal.
With the elevator on level 2, then on the other side right at the Café past by the glass door the terrace is all around with plexiglass. For good photos unfortunately not suitably.

==Other Spotting Locations==

Where are two other Locations to take pictures at DTM.

The first if Runway 06 is in use:
Leave the Terminal and turn right. Take this road for 1.5km alongside some airport facilities and a car park. Then turn right in the street named "Zur alten Windmühle" after a few steps you find a good position to take nice pictures.

The second if Runway 24 is in use:
Leave the Terminal and turn left. Follow this road untill you reach the traffic lights. At this crossroads turn left into the "Zeche-Norm-Str". Follow this road for a while and you will reach the landing lights. Follow the road for just 200m and you'll see a concrete place. Sometimes some trucks are parked there. This is another position to take some better pictures as you could from the viewing gallery do.

===Observation platforms===

*AirTeamImages.com sample photo: [http://www.airteamimages.com/31788.html]

*AirTeamImages.com sample photo: [http://www.airteamimages.com/39228.html]

The second platform can be found at the long distance train station (not to be mistaken with the local train station in the terminal!). Here you are just as close by to the planes, but there is no clutter at all. Therefor this place is preferable. When planes come in from the east they land on the far away runway, and take-off from the nearby runway. Lining up is very close by as well.

Just one ticket gives you admission to both observation decks. Because the rail station and terminal are quite far apart, the airport recommends using the Sky Train service to get from one ovbservation terrace to the other. The ticket for the observation deck is also your ticket for the Sky Train.
