==Official Spotting Locations==

===Russ Baker Way===
This runway is primarily used for airline departures and private aircraft.
All movements can be logged from here with decent optics, but photography is limited.

===Templeton Street===
Left at the second traffic light from the airport (15-20 minutes walk). Faces North.
Unofficial but popular location beside the approach to 26R, you will see many cars parked on a dirt track beside the road. All 26R movements can be logged and good photos can be had although the subjects are a bit high and the smaller types (Dash-8 etc.) will require a long lens.

==="Avis" Lot===
The most desirable location, this is the first turn left out of the airport by the blast screens. Excellent photos over the fence and all 08L/26R movements can be seen. However (there had to be one didn't there ?), the businesses on this road are private property and not very tolerant. You can get lucky and be left alone for hours or be unlucky and thrown out immediately. Worth the gamble though.

===South Terminal===
This is on the other (South) side of the airport from the main terminal and there is a parking lot which overlooks the ramp and the rather distant 08R/26L runway. Good for logging as everything at Vancouver passes this location sooner or later, and there are reasonable photographic opportunities through the fence.

Floatplanes come and go on the Fraser River to the S. of the small terminal, and most of the aircraft parked on the ramps can be logged and some photographed by walking around.

===Ferguson Road===
When arrivals are on 08L, a long drive from the airport via Templeton Road (above) will eventually lead to a small gravel pull-off at the seashore and close to the threshhold.
All arrivals as well as those using runway 12 can be logged and photographed although the location faces South and so is best in the early morning/late evening in the summer.

===Main Terminal===
Only ticketed passengers are allowed on the concourses. There are two 'public' locations from which the action can be watched, but not satisfactorily photographed. On the main floor by the entrance to the C gates are a few chairs facing the window. In the basement food court there are tables and chairs with a somewhat constricted view. Neither is ideal but could be a refuge on a (frequent) rainy day.
==Other Spotting Locations==

===International Terminal===
The Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) has a food court upstairs which is not in the secure area and overlooks the North-South taxiway affording close encounters with the heavies.
Photography is possible through the glass but you need a 25-80mm zoom or similar, and reflections are a problem. In theory movements on both sets of runways can be logged here with suitable optics, but there have been instances of 'enthusiastic' spotters causing the customers to freak out and call security. Discretion and restraint are necessary if you intend spending any time here.

===Imperial Hill===
In the city of El Segundo. A small roadside park at the intersection of Imperial Avenue and Sheldon Street. A few tables and seats, for other facilities you need to walk down the hill to the small shopping plaza. Bus service from the airport - Redondo Beach route (496 I think).

All movements on the South runways can be logged here although care must be taken not to miss those arrivals which turn off early. Some photography possible when traffic is westerly, few arrivals come far enough down although spectacular departure shots can be had with a long (300-400mm) lens. On the rare occasions traffic is landing to the East this is one of the finest locations in the land.

===In-n-Out Burger===
At the corner of Sepulveda and Westchester, 10-15 minutes walk from the airport.
Small grass area across the road from which all movements on the Northern runways can be seen.
Limited photography as arrivals are almost directly overhead, and you are facing South.

There is a multi-storey car park with good views from the top floor. No photography signs are present, and you will likely be told to leave.

===Westchester Boulevard===
Some other possibilities in the same area as the In-n-Out. A bridge about 1/4 mile West provides good photos but anyone standing there is very visible.
Two car parks either side of Sepulveda, one at ground level (E) the other a multi-story (W).
None of these locations are very satisfactory for a long stay.

===Proud Bird Restaurant===
Off Aviation Boulevard beside the approach to the Southern runways. Good landing shots but care must be taken to avoid lampposts and trees. Take the B parking shuttle from the airport.

===Cargo Area===
There are 2 parking lots off the first and second cargo roads respectively. Hanging around either of them will attract the attention of the police sooner or later but OK for a quick shot of anything parked at DHL or FedEx.

==Locations to Avoid==
==Official Spotting Locations==

===McKnight Boulevard===
A paved lot to the West of the main (16/34) runway. All movements on this runway can be seen and photographed (200-300mm), although the sun is bothersome before noon. Traffic using 10/28 is too far away to be identified from here.
Picnic tables and a nearby gas station/store.

===Aerial Place (WestJet hangar)===
A small dirt lot just past the WestJet hangar. Only good for logging 10/28 traffic as there is a double fence preventing photography.
Turn right out of the airport and right again on 78 Avenue then left towards the hangar.

==Other Spotting Locations==

===South Hangars===
Off McCall Way. From an employee car park at the end of McTavish Road movements on 16/34 and 07/25 can be logged. Good photos of 16 departures until late afternoon.
Remember this is private property but weekends should pose no problems.

===Terminal===
The food court has large windows from which all airline movements can be logged.
Some photography is possible through the tinted glass and also from the roadway to the East of the terminal.

===Cargo Area===
Further down 78 Avenue the road ends at the cargo facility and fire station. Movements on both runways can be logged from here, but double fencing again prevents photography.

===Airport Trail===
There are a few locations off this road for runway 16 arrivals.
Many are dirt roads, the best of which is 15 Street and this area is probably of interest to only the most dedicated photographer.

==Locations to Avoid==
The only official location is a park off Russ Baker Way under the apporach to 26L.
This runway is primarily used for airline departures and private aircraft.
All movements can be logged from here with decent optics, but photography is limited.

==Other Spotting Locations==

===Templeton Street===
Left at the second traffic light from the airport (15-20 minutes walk). Faces North.
Unofficial but popular location beside the approach to 26R, you will see many cars parked on a dirt track bside the road. All 26L movements can be logged and good photos can be had although the subjects are a bit high and the smaller types (Dash-8 etc.) will require a long lens.

==="Avis" Lot===

===South Terminal===
This is on the other (South) side of the airport from the main terminal and there is a parking lot which overlooks the ramp and the rather distant 08R/26L runway. Good for logging as everything at Vancouver passes this location sooner or later, and reasonable photographic opportunities.

===Ferguson Road===
All arrivals as well as those using runway 12 can be logged and photographed although the location faces South and so is best in the early morning/late evening in the summer.

===Main Terminal===
The only official location is a park off Russ Baker Way under the apporach to 26L.
This runway is primarily used for airline departures and private aircraft.
All movements can be logged from here with decent optics, but photography is limited.

==Other Spotting Locations==

===Templeton Street===

==="Avis" Lot===

===South Terminal===
This is on the other (South) side of the airport from the main terminal and there is a parking lot which overlooks the ramp and the rather distant 08R/26L runway. Good for logging as everything at Vancouver passes this location sooner or later, and reasonable photographic opportunities.

===Ferguson Road===

===Main Terminal===

==Locations to Avoid==

===Multi-storey car park===
Anyone spotting from the top floor is visible to the control tower, with predictable results.

==Regular Traffic==
Wide range of North American and Asian airlines. Fewer European carriers - BA, KL and LH year-round, others during the summer.
Situation changes frequently, refer to the airport's website for the latest list.
The "Viewpoint Park" overlook on the West side was closed in 2001, and has now disappeared under the 3rd runway.

==Other Spotting Locations==

===Golf Course===
To the immediate S. of the airport is the Tyee Valley Golf Course.
Assuming you're not playing a round, there are a couple of spots nearby.
The car park offers views of arrivals on both runways although the trees can get in the way.

A road goes around the W. side of the course allowing for spotting runway 34R traffic (that on 34L flies directly overhead), but the subjects for photos will be a bit high and it's only good in the afternoon on sunny days. The road bends halfway down so has 2 names - 18th Ave. S. and/or S196th St.

===Water Tank===
To the N. of the airport is a small park at 24th. Ave S. and S146th St. Arriving traffic on the 16s can be logged and photographed from here. There is room for about 4 cars to park.
The Port of Seattle police occasionally patrol here although technically it's not airport property. A quick ID check and they'll leave you alone.

==Locations to Avoid==

===Eastern Perimeter===
Pretty much anywhere along here, from the fire station to the FedEx facility is off-limits.
The Port police will respond very quickly to anyone "loitering" around here and move offenders on.

===Cargo===
This used to be a good spot, but the fence is now covered in plastic and "No Trespassing" signs.

==Official Spotting Locations==

===Russ Baker Way===
The only official location is a park off Russ Baker Way under the apporach to 26L.
This runway is primarily used for airline departures and private aircraft.
All movements can be logged from here with decent optics, but photography is limited.

==Other Spotting Locations==

===Templeton Street===

==="Avis" Lot===

===South Terminal===
This is on the other (South) side of the airport from the main terminal and there is a parking lot which overlooks the ramp and the rather distant 08R/26L runway. Good for logging as everything at Vancouver passes this location sooner or later, and reasonable photographic opportunities.

===Ferguson Road===

===Main Terminal===

==Locations to Avoid==

===Multi-storey car park===
Anyone spotting from the top floor is visible to the control tower, with predicatble results.

==Regular Traffic==
Wide range of North American and Asian airlines. Fewer European carriers - BA, LK and LH year-round, others during the summer.
Situation changes frequently, refer to the airport's website for the latest list.
===Theme Building===
Shut since 2001.

==Other Spotting Locations==

===Imperial Hill===
In the city of El Segundo. A small roadside park at the intersection of Imperial Avenue and Sheldon Street. A few tables and seats, for other facilities you need to walk down the hill to the small shopping plaza. Bus service from ther airport - Redondo Beach route (496 I think).

All movements on the South runways can be logged here although care must be taken not to miss those arrivals which turn off early. Some photography possible when traffic is westerly, few arrivals come far enough down although spectacular departue shots can be had with a long (300-400mm) lens. On the rare occasions traffic is landing to the East this is one of the finest locations in the land.

===In'n'Out Burger===

You may be told to leave.

===Westchester Boulevard===
Some other possibilities in the same area as the In'n'Out. A bridge about 1/4 mile West provides good photos but anyone standing there is very visible.
Two car parks either side of Sepulveda, one at ground level (E) the other a multi-story (W).
None of these locations are very satisfactory for a long stay.

===Proud Bird Restaurant===
Off Aviation Boulevard beside the approach to the Southern runways. Good landing shots but care must be taken to avoid lampposts and trees. Take the B parking shuttle from the airport.

===Cargo Area===
There are 2 parking lots off the first and second cargo roads respectively. Hanging around either of them will attract the attention of the police sooner or later but OK for a quick shot of antyhing parked at DHL or FedEx.

==Locations to Avoid==

===Westchester Bridge===

===Cargo Parking===
Patrolled frequently by not-very-friendly LAWA police.
==Official Spotting Locations==

===The Queens Building===
On top of terminal 2. Shut, indefinitely.

==Other Spotting Locations==
===Rwy 23 threshold===
Early in the morning, if traffic is coming down on 27R, you could get lucky and witness dual rwy ops/landings. In such cases most the BA heavies will opt for 27L whilst a lot of the T3 traffic will land on 27R.
{{anetlink|802551}}
===Block 94 crash gate===
A real no-no, the Police will see you off from here quicker than anything! If you dare to venture into here, as it is open, be aware it's not advisable to hang around for too long. Shots of a/c lining up at B94 (for 27L) can be had though, should you get lucky.
{{anetlink|881225}}
Or shots of landing a/c onto 27L also.
{{anetlink|887541}}
Almost as good a spot is across the dual carriageway, which is perfectly fine, where landing a/c can be shot over the fence.
{{anetlink|887540}}
===09L Field===
There's a field similar to that found at Myrtle Avenue, although this one is for 09L arrivals. Very nice in the mornings when light from the rising Sun hits the fans.
{{anetlink|955969}}
===Hilton Hill===
Either walk from Myrtle Av. or from terminal 4. Expect a 15 minute walk from Myrtle, 5 from T4. The hill is on the side of the road that leads into terminal 4 itself. Plenty of space to not bother anyone. Very hazy in the summer though. Only good for 27L arrival shots, with a different backdrop from the "normal" LHR ones.
{{anetlink|891165}}
===Line ups on 27R===
Shooting through the fence on the Northern Perimeter Road. Excellent spot on late summer evenings when the Sun is almost behind you.
{{anetlink|949901}}
===Gate by Road Crossing===
Only good for 27R ops. Better for landing traffic than departing. Spot is by the mini roundabout near the white huts. Where the a/c cross the road from the airport to the maintenance area there's a red and white gate. Excellent spot for touch downs on 27R.
{{anetlink|950006}}
Aircraft being tugged across the road are also easily shot here too.
{{anetlink|802553}}

===Myrtle Avenue===
A field at the end of Myrtle Avenue, by the approach lights for 27L. By foot, either walk from terminal 4 northbound alongside the dual carriageway or southbound from Hatton cross tube. The field can not be missed; it's about a 10 minute walk from either end.

{{anetlink|956772}}
{{anetlink|930453}}
{{anetlink|907596}}

===09R banking/climbout shots:Tesco Dukes Green===
Excellent spot just outside the airport perimeter,located on the A312.About a 10-15 minute southbound walk from Hatton Cross tube station.A good spot for shooting banking,heavy takeoffs when 09R is use(about 30% of the time)especially for heavy A340s.

{{anetlink|809816}}
{{anetlink|816157}}

===27L climbouts:Former Essso garage alongside the southern perimeter road===
Popular spot for capturing takeoffs from 27L.Hard to park the car here now as the slip lane as been coned off to prevent such activity!Possible to get a bus to the cargo centre but and walk westbound for about 10minutes.Brick bollards provide useful height for shooting aircraft climbing out slowly after a long takeoff run.

{{anetlink|767759}}
{{anetlink|816429}}

===Perimeter road in north-west corner 27R climbouts===
The perimeter road in the far north-west corner also provides some excellent opportunities for 27R climbout shots although the sun is not far round enough for this spot to be effective during the winter and autumn months.

{{anetlink|836263}}
{{anetlink|890483}}

===27R final approaches from the mini trading estate===
Given the road works and the imminent closing of the 'road crossing road' this area may not be around for too much longer.This spot is on a small trading estate,just off the perimeter road,comprising a series of mainly single tier buildings and is generally quiet at the weekend.Parking the car is not advised here as it is a private estate.Others prefer to shoot from the roundabout on the perimeter road and the little patch of land next to it but I personally find that you are a little too 'under' the aircraft compared to the trading estate spot.

{{anetlink|818386}}

===Runway 27R touchdowns===
Like the 27R climb outs spot,the light here is only good about 1/2 of the year as you are facing south but it is perfect for evening photography.A few different angles can be had from along the north perimeter road depending on where exactly you shoot from.

A relatively quiet airport but with good facilities and opportunities for spotting/photography. Scheduled traffic is limited - AC Jazz, WestJet, Horizon, occasional Air Canada and some local commuter carriers. Can be slow at times, but one of the best places to get close to Dash-8s, Canadair jets etc. as well as the larger 737s/A320s.

==Official Spotting Locations==

===Terminal===

1. A viewing area on the 2nd floor of the terminal. Glass fronted, facing North. A few seats.

2. External viewing "mound" to the left of the terminal. A small raised area overlooking the West ramp and taxiway. Tables and seats. Photography (50-100mm) possible over or through the fence.

==Other Spotting Locations==

===East Hangars===
Two left turns out of the terminal lead to the East hangars. The main road curves right leaving a small cul-de-sac. This overlooks the helicopter base, the FBO ramp and the threshhold of 27. Good spotting and photography from here, but no facilities - the locals bring their cars.

===Pat Bay===
A small park under the approach to runway 09. A little lower than the airport, no runways are visible here but 09 traffic passes directly overhead. A short walk along the beach gives a few opportunities for photos but nothing really outstanding.

===West Hangars===
Turn right out of the terminal. The Forests base is located here and occasional air tankers are present in season. The Air Force has a hangar full of geriatric Sea Kings but it is firmly shut most of the time, in which case some taxiing shots of 09 traffic can be had from the parking lot.

==Locations to Avoid==

===Air Force Parking Lot===
If the Sea Kings are active, you may be approached by a military guard. Depending on his mood you may be asked to leave.

==Facilities and Transportation==
All terminal facilites are open to non-passengers.
There is a sporadic bus service (70B) from Victoria to the ferry dock which calls at the airport.
Bmadhttps://www.spotterswiki.com/index.php?title=Victoria_International_Airport&diff=2754Victoria International Airport2005-11-15T21:17:35Z
Bmad:

===Terminal===
There is a small viewing area to the right of the terminal, under the control tower.
Nice facility with seats and tables and it faces North, the major drawback being that there is not much to see. Scheduled service is a few commuter flights (Mesa and Great Lakes) and these are far enough apart that it's worth checking the timetable to avoid hours of tedium.

Mesa's pilot training Cherokees and Barons come and go all the time so there is some action, but not a place to plan on staying long.

==Other Spotting Locations==

===None===
The airport is on top of a mesa. I didn't find any other locations on- or off-airport that were useable.

==Facilities and Transportation==
