===Visitors Terrace===

There is a visitors terrace situated on the third floor of the terminal which offers views of taxiing aircraft, the apron, and the runway 06/24. Spotting from the terrace a focal equivalent of about 300mm is needed for capturing airplanes such as the DHC-8-300 Dash 8 on the runway.

According to the airport terminal plan, there is a restaurant on the second floor and a snack bar on the terrace.

A few walking minutes away from the terminal is the tower. The fence at this place has mesh that is semi-large. From here you can take pictures of the aircraft on the runway or on the taxiway.

===Kart Circuit===

You can find another spotting location if you comming from the airport follow the "Bundesstrasse B 30" toward city. You will see at the right sight a kart circuit and the fence of the airport.

The Airport has its own Railway Station and is situated approx 100 metres (1 minute walk) from the Terminal Building.

==AERO 2010 - International Trade Exhibition for General Aviation==

The AERO is an exhibition for General Aviation in Friedrichshafen. The fair takes place every year and the next is from April 8th until April 11th 2010. A spectator can see a lot of interesting aircraft and spectacular air shows.

This is the main spotting area at Tenerife Norte. The 'TF-24' road runs south of the eastern end of the runway, and there is a side road from here offering a good view of aircraft touching down and lining up on Runway 30. This location also offers a reasonable view of aircraft departing from Runway 12, although only heavies such as the Iberia A340 will rotate close to this area. The spot is regularly used by local spotters so providing you park in the side road rather than on the main road there should be no problem with police etc.

The view terraces are in Terminal 1 and 2. They offer an outstanding view over the apron and the runways. The view Terraces in Terminal 2 can be visited for free. I don't know if there is an entrance fee at Terminal 1. The accesses are signposted.

There is another view Terrace at the Model Exhibition. Go outside of the terminal and walk 5 minutes to the north. You will see the Sign for the "Modelschau". There is a restaurant with a view Terrace. The entrance is for free, but unfortunately you'll have to spot through glass.

Rua Santa Catarina is a street about 100 meters away from the runway and about 50 meters higher than the runway. The best place for Inbound traffic is at the beginning of the road. Park your car at the first possible place on the right side. Then go about 50 meters downhill where you will see a concrete box (whatever it may be). You can climb and stand on this box and get very close pictures of landing planes. Another possibility is on the opposite side of the road, where you will find a bar, climb up the hill and get planes still in the air (and sometimes see the fear in the face of the pilot, because Funchal is not easy to land!) while standing on the concrete box you get them touching the runway.

==Early History==
The airport was first served by commercial flights in 1925 by Aero Lloyd, which operated flights to Paris. By the business year 1927/1928, service had expanded to 2,589 commercial flights annually. During World War II the airport was used a German air base, and was subsequently used by the United Kingdom|British Royal Air Force. Service to Dortmund was not recommenced when German commercial air service was restarted in 1955.Over the next decades Düsseldorf International Airport and Cologne Bonn Airport were the dominant commercial airports in the Rhine-Ruhr. Additionally Hanover/Langenhagen International Airport and Münster/Osnabrück Airport also covered some of the air travel needs of this region. Furthermore, the 257 kilometer/km (160mile) Sauerlandlinie opened in the late 1960s, connecting Dortmund with Frankfurt International Airport in under two hours by car.

Commercial service was restored in 1979 with daily flights to Munich by Reise- und Industrieflug GmbH (RFG). Nuremberg and Stuttgart followed shortly afterwards. Following German Reunification in 1990, Dresden, Leipzig, Berlin, and London were added to the flight schedule.

RFG and NFD (Nürnberger Flugdienst) merge in 1990 and Eurowings was formed, which is still based in Dortmund. Construction was started in 1998, and completed in 2000 on a new replacement terminal. This multi-level terminal prepared the airport for its resurgence.

From late 2000 onwards, Dortmund Airport has experienced a drastic increase in air traffic. In the 1990s weekly service had been generally restricted to a few turboprop flights to destinations within Germany, as well as occasional charter flights to warm-weather destinations. Since 2000, several new airlines have commenced service to Dortmund, many with mainline jets. Most of the air traffic today is by low cost airlines operating Boeing 737 or Airbus Airbus A318/Airbus A319/Airbus A320/Airbus A321 series aircraft to warm-weather destinations and business centers.

The first if Runway 06 is in use:
Leave the Terminal and turn right. Take this road for 1.5km alongside some Airportfacillities and a car park. Then turn right in the street named "Zur alten Windmühle" after a few steps you find a good position to take nice pictures.

The second if Runway 24 is in use:
Leave the Terminal and turn left. Follow this road untill you reach the traffic lights. At this crossroads turn left into the "Zeche-Norm-Str". Follow this road for a while and you will reach the landing lights. Follow the road for just 200m and you´ll see a concret place. Sometimes som Truck are parked there. This is another position to take some better pictures as you could from the viewing gallery do.

There are no views from inside the terminal building landside.

Once airside, there are windows in each of the four gate areas, but with limited views onto small parts of the apron. Some locations give views onto one of the runways, too, but none is good for photography as windows are tinted.

===Parking garage===

For the spotter in a hurry, the top level of the car park opposite the terminal building can serve as a vantage point, but views are restricted to the southwestern ends of the runways and some longterm remote stands.

===Around the airport===

There are a number of locations around the airport's perimeter, but to get there a car or a bike are recommended.

#The end of Camino de Son Fangos at "39.548065, 2.707282" (coordinates for google maps) can be reached on foot from the nearby Carrefour supermarket, but views from there aren't too good. Do not get fooled by Google maps: The camino is interrupted by the airport perimeter in direction north and you cannot head directly to location #2 (even on foot) !
#West of runway 24R on Carrer Lluchmajor "39.554784,2.719846". Do not go there on foot, as when coming from the west, you will have to bypass Palma's "slum" at Son Banya (a place not recommended to be after nightfall). Growing bushes on the other side of the airport fence more and more are obstructing views.
#Much better is a location further north that can be reached from the village of Son Ferriol "39.560280, 2.730200". This is a dead end with not more than 2 cars to park; keep the entrance to the farm clear ! Stay off the private properties including the fields itself. This location offers good views of runway 24R and western / northern apron. Traffic on runway 24L can be monitored, too, but not much more.
#Northeast of the airport: With runway 24L used for arrivals you can also park at location "39.559321, 2.769432" and have landing aircraft buzz right overhead you. The sun should be no problem for head-on shots.
#With runway 06R used for departures, try to head for the park at Poligono Son Oms (walking distance from the Playa de Palma): "39.539926,2.735167".

After nightfall, stay away from the area of "Son Banya" to the west of the airfield (see Spotting location 2 above) or drive through quickly.

During busy summer season almost every carrier in Europe flies to PMI.

Winter is considerably less busy with pax numbers falling to a 10th of summer peak numbers.

The single biggest carrier in PMI is Air Berlin for whom PMI is a hub airport.

Only runways 06L/24R and 06R/24L are used regularly; runway 06C/24C only serves as a taxiway nowadays (therefore some sources list 2, others 3 runways, but the aerial view reveals that that strip of concrete is still maintained as a runway).

Unless there is construction work going on or in case of emergency closure of runway 06L/24R, runway 24L is not used for departures and 06R is not used for landings. This is in order to shield the village of C'an Pastilla from excessive aircraft noise (even now it gets loud there). The only execption I have witnessed sofar were military flights by a CASA turbo-prop.

At the back of the main check-in area you can ascend a series of escalator/steps or use a lift to the official spectator's gallery. This is truly awful, especially compared to the old terrace at Don Muang. You have to duck down to get a view of only one of the main parking areas. Nowhere to sit except in the adjacent meditation area which would be considered disrespectful in this very religious country.

The Munich Airport is located 28.5 kilometers north-east of the center of Munich,
the Bavarian Capital, at 448 meters above sea level (NN).

===Terminal 2: Visitors Terrace - Skywalk===
Take the Skywalk from Level 05 in the public area of Terminal 2. 
Views are onto Terminal 2 apron, the aircraft handling area and the runways. 
However, all views from this area are through glass, so it is questionable if it is good for photography. 
Opening times: Daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. 
Admission price: €2 (automated turnstiles only; bring exact cash)

===Visitors Hill / Visitors Park===

The observation platform atop the 28-metre Viewing Hill provides views of Terminal 1-apron and activities on both runways.
However, action at Terimal 2 is can not be seen, as the terminal buildings block views. It is either 172 steps to the top or a graded footpath circling the hill. 
Be aware, that there is no real shelter from the elements on the hill. 
 
To reach this location from the Terminals, take S-Bahn for one station only. 
Opening times: 24h 
Admission: €1 (bring coins); combined ticket with Info Center / Exhibition / Aircraft visit available.

===Spotters hills along the runways===
Alongside each of the two runways there is a dedicated spotters hill complete with car park (no charges for car parking or access to the hill). These locations are too far away from the terminal in order to reach them on foot. Car or bike are recommended.
The one to the south at 48.340930, 11.795520 gives also (rather distant) views of Terminal 2 area and the sun will be behind you for action on runway 08R/26L. Be prepared for intersection departures of smaller aircraft on runway 26L.

==Other Spotting Locations==
Foot paths along the extensive street-system within the airport provides options for shooting aircraft on taxiways. However, at most times, aircraft will be positioned higher than the photographer. As usual, fences can obstruct views.

None. The area is pretty safe and as long as you do not park illegally, Police tends to be friendly.

==Regular Traffic==
MUC handled about 34 million passengers in 2007, so it is among the more busy airports in Europe. Although longhaul traffic is growing at MUC, the vast mojority of passengers are transported in aircraft the size of Boeing B737 / Airbus A320 and smaller. 
Lufthansa, together with its affiliates and StarAlliance partners, dominates traffic at MUC; they are the exclusive users of Terminal 2.
